Harold D. “Hoagie” Hoggard, 77
Friedens, died Aug. 28, 2006, at Somerset Hospital.
Born April 13, 1929 in Illinois, son of Edson Hoggard and Mabel (Harned) Hoggard-Osbun. Preceded in death by parents, daughter, Cynthia Keim, brothers: Woody and Kenneth and sister, Betty Laughrey. Survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Betty Peterman; son, Harold Dean Hoggard II and special daughter-in-law, the former Marlania Derberry, Friedens; grandson, Skyler Keim, and sister, Kathryn Shimkus, Pittsburgh.
He was a Korean War Army veteran having served with the military police. Retired after 26 years with the Somerset Borough Police Department where he was the last surviving motorcycle policeman from the 1960's.
Member of Mostoller United Methodist Church, Stoystown, American Legion, Somerset V.F.W., Laurel Ridge Sportsmen's Club, and Retired Police Breakfast Group. Member and 12-year past president of F.O.P. Lodge 98. Member of Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, Honda Gold Wings, American Legion Riders, Somerset Lodge 358 F. & A.M., Jaffa Temple Shrine, and Harrisburg Consistory.
He was an avid bowler and motorcyclist.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Mostoller United Methodist Church, Kimmelton. The Rev. James Hamilton and The Rev. Samuel Weible officiating. Interment church cemetery. Graveside military rites by Somerset County Honor Guard.
